Freud, Lewis and Jackson

A couple of Sundays ago, Kaleb and I met up with our fellow interns, Tim and MaeLee for our first play together since coming to NY. We chose to see Freud's Last Session, partly because of the cheap student price we were able to get, but it was also recommended by Nathan because of the Christian, theological context. This play is a speculated encounter that occurred between Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis shortly before Freud died. The play takes place in Freud's office where there is an exchange of beliefs between the two of them in which both sides present their view of God, or lack thereof. I expected the play to be offensive to me personally as a believer as well as dark and over my head; however, it was playful and witty. I think there was just as much argument for God as there was against. Overall, I dont believe the full gospel of God was presented clearly enough that unbelievers would completely understand; however, hopefully many questions may arise and leave unbelievers to search for truth.

Bro Al and Ms. Kem joined us in Bay Ridge for a few days, along with two of their grandchildren. It was so good to see these familiar faces and be encouraged. During their time here, we also met up with all the other interns across NY and NJ for dinner and prayer meeting at Brooklyn Tabernacle. Although our time together was short, we were able to hear how God is working in other parts of NY and see friends. Prayer meeting was a blessing of course. Jim Cymbala was actually here this time. It was neat to see him leading the prayer time as well as portions of the music. Here is a picture of the group.

So while the rest of the interns had to go back to other parts of the city, Kaleb and I had the privilege of spending some extra time with the Jacksons, along with the Tubbs and Jeff. We enjoyed an outing to Coney Island (where I thought a homeless man was going to attack me) and dinner at the Tubbs that evening. We are excited to be back among our Lakeview family in less than two weeks now to be further discipled and encouraged in order that we might be sent out in the future.
