A First for Cornerstone

Since our last post, Kaleb and I have been extremely busy around Bay Ridge, some work and some play. We had a new group to join us on July 14th from Liberty Baptist in Chelsea, AL (home of one of our favorite people, Katie Douthit!) and we began the trip with a prayer walking tour of Brooklyn and of course, ended up at Coney Island! In case I have not explained the prayer walking tour before, the groups are able to experience many different neighborhoods and nationalities in just a few short hours. It begins in Bay Ridge, predominantly white, and moves through Hispanic, Chinese, Jewish, and Russian neighborhoods.

Sunday morning at Cornerstone marked the first baby dedication in its history. Three families were represented and four children. The kids blessed us with their first church performance of Jesus Loves Me.

Monday night the Cornerstone group trekked into the city for some fabulous 10 cent wings in honor of C. David and Jill who are leaving Bay Ridge and moving to San Diego (please be in prayer for this family as they make this transition).

The team from Liberty Baptist worked two days in the park, one day around town picking up trash, and each evening at a different local park engaging kids and teenagers in various activities including football, frisbie, sidewalk chalk and bubbles. There were many opportunities for spiritual conversations with the locals during these activities. This team was made up of high school and college students and a few chaperons. The week was high energy and lots of fun! Kaleb and I enjoyed a day of fun with the team on a guided tour of Manhattan where we visited St. John the Divine's cathedral (soon to be the largest in the world), the conservatory at Central Park, Katz Deli (Kaleb was in heaven), a cool candy store, and many other famous sites. 

Our final exciting activity for the week was going to a Brooklyn Cyclones baseball game on Coney Island! After some much needed rainfall, we nearly froze!
